MAY AND JUNE 2012
THIRD GRADE: We truly enjoyed learning many new vocabulary in Spanish during this year. Basically, most of the lessons were an introduction of the text book they will be using in 4th grade. During May & June, we are finishing with vocabulary on the people in our school and places in our school. Parents are encouraged to continue to review this vocabulary with the children during the summer. Thank you for your support.
FOURTH GRADE: We completed the textbook, "Hola". At the present time,
the children are working at completing the 50/50 project (50 questions and 50 answers). This project will prepare them for their last test. Also, the children are making pinatas. Pinatas are very popular in 4th grade. The pinatas can be made with a partner or individually. The Pinatas are due on the day of our Fiesta.
FIFTH GRADE: We completed the textbook, "Que tal". The children worked very hard and are ready for Spanish 6th. All fifth graders received a test review packet for their last test on June 8th. Our Fiesta will be on June 11th.
SIXTH GRADE: The children worked very hard in sixth grade. Our book, "Adelante", was great. We learned about Spanish-speaking countries, the cities/town, asking for directions around the city, going to a bank and restaurant, names of different places around the city, buying gifts, different occupations, money in Hispanic countries, and many important verbs. Our final will be June 11th. Our Fiesta will be on June 13th....

ABRIL - APRIL
Third Grade - We finished the clothing lesson. Our new lesson is on feelings.
What's the matter? ... Que tienes? We will review the following phrases:
I am hungry (tengo hambre), I am sleepy (tengo sueno), I am thirsty,
(tengo sed), I am cold, I am warm, I am scare, I am nice, and other
feeling words. I will continue to include music in our lessons.
Fourth Grade - Lesson 7 - We will talk about how they are feeling. Saying what
they have and how they are. Tienes ... Tengo....
Learn to tell our age and ask about the age of others.
We will learn when to use (tu) and when to use (usted) when addressing an adult..
Discuss some ways Spanish-speaking families celebrate birthdays.
Fifth Grade - Lesson 9 and 10 - We will continue to study and learn about breakfast, lunch and
dinner vocabulary. What do you want for breakfast, lunch and dinner?
What do you want to drink? Talking about what we want to eat. We will
also cover things you can and cannot do, and special likes and dislikes.
Finally, we will learn some of the foods in Spanish-speaking countries.
Sixth Grade - Lesson 8 - The Bank and Restaurant - We are learning the name of people
and things found in the bank and restaurants. The money reports were excellent.
We learned about the monetary value in most Spanish-speaking countries.
Lesson 9 - La ciudad - The City
In this unit we will learn names of more places in a city.
We will talk about where people and places are. We will also describe how
people are feeling and what things are.
Also we will learn more about Spanish-speaking countries.

LA PRIMAVERA - SPRING
Third graders - The third graders are continuing to practice the alphabet and numbers. We finished reviewing phrases on the weather and seasons. Que tiempo hace? Te gusta el verano? Hace frio, hace calor, and more phrases on the weather.
Learning to say the months, and saying their birthday in Spanish was easy to them. During March, we will be describing pieces of clothing. The students have a project on the clothing. They are making a poster board displaying the clothing in English and Spanish. This project is due in two weeks.
Fourth graders - Unit 5: The fourth graders enjoyed learning and reviewing the expressions on the weather. It's hot, it's cold, and learning the seasons. They learned to say, "What are you going to do?", "What do you like?, and other phrases in Spanish. Also, we covered talking about likes and dislikes. What do you like?
Unit 6: In this unit we will be covering: the months, talking about their birthday,
action words like; to swim, to dance, to walk, to paint, and other words. What do you want to do? How often do you do something? These questions are part of this unit.
Fifth graders - Unit 7 - In this unit we covered chores around the house, household appliances, and the necessary tools to clean the house. What we do at home?
Unit 8 - This unit deals with things on the table . The utensils, sugar, cream, napkins, salt, pepper and many more words. Fruits like apples, cherries, pears, sandia, fresas bananas and other fruits are part of this unit. We also learned two verbs,
decir and traer (to say and to bring).
Unit 9 - Breakfast - Que hay de desayuno? This unit covers what we eat for breakfast and the drinks. They will learn to say, eggs, cereal, toast and oatmeal. We will also learn vocabulary words for lunch and dinner. We will review, me gusta and no me gusta. I like and I don't like.
Sixth graders - Unit 6 - In this unit, we learned about traveling by air. Vocabulary: schedule, suitcase, pilot, airplanes arrivals & departures, on time, late, early, flight, to fly, and to land. The unit covered many important phrases regarding traveling by air.
The verb HACER (to do/to make) was introduced.
Unit 7 - In this unit, we will cover all the necessary vocabulary inside the hotel. Hotel phrases and the names of things inside the rooms. Also, hot and cold water.
This will be an easy lesson on the things we need in a hotel.

JANUARY AND FEBRUARY LESSONS
El invierno - winter .... ENERO (JANUARY) - FEBRUARY
Third grade - We will continue to work on learning vocabulary describing the family member
and people around us . Also, we will review words on our season & weather
Fourth grade - We have finished days of the week . We will continue to learn vocabulary
describing the school, our town. Also, saying where we are going, and
when we are going.
The seasons and weather will be cover this month....
Please encourage your child to copy all vocabulary in their notebooks, make
flash cards, and study the words.
Fifth grade We are the learning the outside and inside of the house vocabulary, including
the rooms and the furniture. They are learning nouns and important verbs
relating to this subject. I am encouraging the children to practice at
at home by labeling the things around the house. Please make sure they write
their vocabulary words down and study.
Sixth grade We finished learning about the town and city vocabulary. Now we are
exploring the Spanish-Speaking Countries and the Nationalities of these
countries.
Next we will work on going on a trip vocabulary (airline, schedules, early
late, arrivals, pilots and more).
We are working on three very important verbs. To be (ser and estar) and
to go (ir). Also, we are reviewing the AR, ER, and IR verbs.
Sixth grade verb package: Many sixth graders are still having difficulties with the verbs (ser and
estar) which means to be . After speaking with Mr. Gieryng about the importance of learning these verbs, he approved given the 6th graders extra work during vacation. Please make sure the activities
on the package are complete. This is due Monday, Feb. 27th.

3rd Grade - This is good time to introduce FOOD, FAMILY AND HOLIDAYS in
Spanish-Speaking countries. The children will certainly learn simple vocabulary on these topics.
4th Grade - Finished working on the colors, animals, shapes and sizes. Our new lessons will cover days of week, saying where we are going and learning about places in our neighborhood.
5th Grade - Learning about the exterior and interior parts of the house. They will learn to desbribe the rooms in their house. Furniture in the living room , bedroom...We will re-cycle many words from previous units. Assignment - One page report on how Christmas is celebrated in Spanish countries.
6th Grade - We are learning about the city... The verb IR (to go) .. Learning simple vocabulary
on getting around the city.....Other Verbs will be introduced....Assignment: One page report on how Christmas is celebrated in Spanish countries.
